Bean Shortage

Title

Bean Shortage

Description

The photograph shows four 13.4-oz (can-sized) cardboard boxes of beans lined up on a counter. Since the beginning of quarantine, the Whole Foods near the Macalester campus has instituted a bean limit: four cans or boxes and two dry bags of beans per person. Canned beans are regularly sold out. Boxed beans have been a source of humor in my household: none of us had ever seen beans in boxes anywhere else, so they seem silly to us, and now they're the only beans reliably available. Other shoppers seem to find boxed beans less desirable. Other than the packaging they are indistinguishable from canned beans.
