George Floyd Mural Over Plywood

Title

George Floyd Mural Over Plywood

Description

This mural was painted on plywood outside of the Patagonia store at 1648 Grand Avenue, right off campus. Many businesses like this one had boarded up their windows due to the civil unrest following the murder of George Floyd. All over the Twin Cities, many artists made these plywood boards into their canvas, to make political statements through their art. Leesa Kelly and Kenda Zellner-Smith, of Minneapolis, founded Memorialize the Movement and Save the Boards (two organizations that formed a partnership) to preserve these murals before they were dumped, repainted, or put to other uses (https://www.memorializethemovement.com/). The artist who made the mural pictured here is unknown to me.
