In the spring of 2020, a group of administrators and students from across campus departments started the reading group[1]Thanks to the Mansergh-Stuessy Fund for College Innovation for their support of the reading group., “Towards Revealing and Creating a More Inclusive History of Macalester College,” the participants of which included students, faculty, staff, and alumni. The group’s reading centered around Jeanne Halgren Kilde’s 2010 book Nature and Revelation: A History of Macalester College. As Kilde’s book focused on Macalester’s religious standing, the group also drew on supplementary readings and materials from the college archives to provide additional context and perspectives left out of Kilde’s history. The group utilized a shared google drive to collect readings, notes, and other materials. Linked below are some of those documents by, for, and about the group. Please note: you must be logged into a Macalester google account to access some of these documents. To see the supplementary readings and archival materials the group read, check out the tag Mac History Reading Group (2020).
